Week of January 6th!

Reminders:

  • School Supplies Needed for the new year: New Crayon boxes, sharpened pencils, 

What We’re Learning:

Math– We will be learning about missing addends, i.e. 8 + ?=11. Please continue working on all math facts. This is a challenging unit!

Reading- We will be comparing and contrasting the adventures in stories.

Writing-We will start our unit on Opinion Writing. This is a unit when students have a lot of ideas to write about-haha!

Phonics: We will study the suffix -ed and review -s and -es.

S.T.E.A.M. We will continue to cultivate our fall garden.

 

Week of December 16th!

  • Early Release-this Thursday, the 19th and Friday, the 20th! School resumes for students, Monday January 6th.
  • Book Swap! Our class will have a gently used Book Swap this Thursday, December 19th. Please send in a gently used and wrapped book BY this Thursday.  A notice is going home about it Friday, December 13th.

What We’re Learning:

Math– We will be reviewing what we have learned this quarter (place value, fact families, etc.)  by doing fun, holiday crafts.

Reading- We will continue reviewing our reading skills from this quarter while reading fun, holiday books. I will finish up assessments this week for Quarter 2. 

Writing-We will write about holiday themes.

Phonics: We will study the suffix -ed and review -s and -es.

S.T.E.A.M. We will continue to cultivate our fall garden.

Week of December 9th!

Reminders:

  • We are going to the LLC this Wednesday! Please send in all library books.
  • Family Journals went home today. Please write a short response and send back on Monday.

What We’re Learning:

Math– We will be working on solving word problems this week. We will use the procedure: Understand, Plan, Solve and Explain. Please continue to have your child practice his/her addition and subtraction math facts every evening either with Moby Max and/or flashcards. 

Reading- We will continue reviewing our reading skills from this quarter while reading fun holiday books. I will also assess this week for Quarter 2. 

Writing-We will start wrapping up our Informational Writing Unit.

Phonics: We will study the suffix -ed.

Content-We will continue learning about our Founding Father and 3rd President, Thomas Jefferson.

S.T.E.A.M. We will cultivate our fall garden.

Week of December 2nd!

Reminders:

  • No School: Thanksgiving Break: Monday, November 25th through Friday, November 29th. Enjoy!

What We’re Learning:

Math– We will be learning about equal equations and identifying Equations as True/False , for example: 6+7=9+4 (True) and 3+9=6+8 (False). Please continue to have your child practice his/her addition and subtraction math facts every evening either with Moby Max and/or flashcards. 

Reading- We will review all of the skills we have learned so far this year: Story Elements-setting, characters, plot, problem, solution, asking/answering questions, main idea/details, and author’s purpose,  while reading fun, holiday-themed books.

Writing-We will write a teaching book about our S.T.E.A.M. project, planting a Fall/Winter garden.

Phonics: We will study the suffixes -s and -es.

Content-We will learn about another of our brilliant founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson.

S.T.E.A.M. We will cultivate our fall garden.

Reminders:

  • Many FAST Classes are coming to an end. Please send in a note this week if your child will be having a change of transportation home.
  • Please send in your child’s library books this Friday. We will be going to the ILC.

What We’re Learning:

Math-We will study the Place Value for numbers 20-99. Students will have to identify how many tens and ones are in a number as well as represent it in expanded form, i.e. 83=80+3. Please continue to have your child practice his/her addition and subtraction math facts every evening either with Moby Max and/or flashcards. 

Reading- We will continue identifying and explaining Author’s Purpose. Students will identify if an author is writing to Persuade, Inform or Entertain. They will also explain how they know this.

Writing-We will write an Informational Book, which includes a Table of Contents, Headings, Illustrations and labels, about Benjamin Franklin.

Phonics: We will review all of the phonics skills we have learned so far this year: closed syllables, short vowel sounds, consonants vs. vowels, the -ck rule, c vs. k, and the FLOSS rule.

Content- We will continue our unit on one of our brilliant founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin. We will have so much fun learning about his amazing contributions to our country. There will be an assessment this Friday.

Week of November 11th!

  • Tritt’s annual can/dry Food Drive is continuing through next week!

What We’re Learning:

Math-We will put it all together (addition and subtraction to 20) this week by learning about Fact Families. For example, the Fact Family for 8,7,15 would be: 8+7=15, 7+8=15, 15-8=7, 15-7=8. Please continue to have your child practice math facts every evening either with Moby Max and/or flashcards. 

Reading- We will identify and explain Author’s Purpose. Students will identify if an author is writing to Persuade, Inform or Entertain. They will also explain how they know this.

Writing-We will continue writing Informational/Teaching books.

Phonics: The FLOSS rule: Doubling the f,l,s and z following a short vowel, in a 1-syllable word, i.e stiff, drill, class, jazz.

Writing-Students will write their first teaching book this week as part of our Information Writing Unit. They will include a Table of Contents to tie into our Non-Fiction unit as well.

Phonics: C vs. K Rule: “Curvy C and Straight K

Content- We will wrap up our unit on Light and Shadows

S.T.E.A.M. We will research the features of fall gardens in preparation for our planting.
