Week of January 28th!

What We’re Learning:

Math– We will continue comparing numbers using greater than, less than or equal to signs. We will have an assessment this week.

Reading- We will continue learning about the Central Message, or the lesson/moral of stories. We will identify and discuss what the author is trying to teach us, as well as how we can apply this to our own lives.

Writing-We will continue our Opinion Writing unit. We will focus upon our opening sentence, our 3 supporting reasons and our concluding sentence.

Phonics: We will learn about the Long O Vowel made by OA and OW and OE as in throat, snow and doe. Phonics Rule: When 2 vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.

Social Studies: We will continue learning about the 7 continents. Students will get to rotate to all the different first grade teachers to learn about all the different continents. They will be coming home with a great flip-book of the 7 continents to keep for many years to come!

S.T.E.A.M.: Students will participate in a theatrical S.T.E.A.M. activity involving our 7 continents.

Reminders and Requests:

  • NO School Monday, January 21 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
  • We go to the ILC on Tuesday. Please send in your child’s library books!

Social Studies: We will start a unit on the  7 continents, starting with our very own, North America.

Week of January 14th!

Reminders and Requests:

  • Quarter 2 Report Cards went live today, Friday, January 11th on Parent Vue.
  • Please return all “Favorite Things” Bag items this Monday, January 14th! We will start using these on Monday for our Opinion Writing Unit.
  • F.A.S.T. Classes start this week! Please send ONE note in stating what your child’s new dismissal/F.A.S.T. schedule will be, if applicable. Thank you!

What we will be learning:

Math– We will take what we have learned about missing addends and use these skills in word problems. We will have an assessment on Friday.

Reading- We will continue comparing and contrasting the adventures of characters from different stories using graphic organizers such as the Venn diagram.

Writing-We will begin our Opinion Writing unit by sharing our favorite things bags. Students will select their favorite item from those bags and write about their reasons.

Phonics: We will learn about the Long Vowels sounds O and U made by the silent e as in the words broke and flute.

Social Studies: We will learn about the brave accomplishments and contributions of Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea.
