Important Reminders:

  • Election Day-No School this Tuesday, November 7th for students!
  • Please send in a water bottle and/or shoe box if your child is needing it for his/her sound instrument sound project. Their sheets were sent home Thursday with the materials needed.  We will be building this Thursday, November 9th!
  • November Choice Boards will be coming home Monday. These assignments will be due Friday, December 1st.

What We’re Learning This Week:

Math-We will start learning about unknown variables-i.e. VERY simple and rudimentary algebra i.e. 8+?=14. We also call this missing addends. Once they have a strong understanding of this, we will move into higher level word problems involving missing addends.

Reading– This week we will start focusing on why authors write what they do. Authors write to Persuade, Inform, or Entertain. We will identify the “points” authors are trying to make in their books and also the reasons an author gives to support these points. We will also continue reading all about bats!

Phonics- This week’s phonic’s skill will be the Long o sound as in “spoke.”

Writing-We will continue our Informational Writing Unit this week! Also, November is the month to give thanks, so this week we will start writing about all the things in our lives that we are thankful for. We will also write fun, November-themed sticker stories.

Science-We will continue learning about sound this week and will culminate the unit by sharing our sound instruments, while identifying the different pitches, volumes, energy and vibrations created by them all.

S.T.E.M.- This week we will build our sound instruments! Please make sure to send a shoebox and/or water bottle for your child if he/she needs it. I have all the other materials on the list!
