Our Week At  A Glance:

Math: We will start solving word problems this week involving addition and subtraction. We will focus on the process: underling the information, circling the question, visualizing the problem. We will have many fall-themed word problems to make this unit more lively!

Reading: This week we will be reviewing all of the reading comprehension strategies we have learned so far: asking questions, visualizing, sequencing/retelling, and story elements: characters, setting, illustrations, the problem and solution. I will also review fiction and non-fiction books and will  circle them into our reading centers. Please make sure your children are reading 20 minutes every night!!

Writing: Please remember to send in a picture or 2 from your fall break! We will be using these pictures to write narratives throughout the week. We will continue to use our Writers’ Workshop structure to create our pieces.

Phonics: We will start our unit on words ending in –ng, -nk, -nd and -nt. There will be another spelling test on Friday, October 7th. Students did really well on their first spelling test! They felt very grown up! It was great to see them all tapping and sounding out the sounds for their words.

Social Studies: We will be learning about the amazing Benjamin Franklin! I am SO excited to teach our students about this impressive historical figure. Their minds will be blown learning about his incredible intelligence and contributions to all that we have today!!

S.T.E.M. All students designed their water containers which prevented evaporation, but also allowed someone to drink from them. This week we will be bringing their plans to life using the materials they used in their designs. They will create their water containers with their selected group members.

I look forward to seeing all of your sweet children on Monday!

Melissa
