  • There is No School Monday, January 15th for Martin Luther King Day.
  • FAST classes start this week. If your child is attending a FAST class, I will need a note stating which class they are in, which day and which session. I only need one note because I have a master list and will update that as I receive the letters.
  • This week in the Red Homework folders, I will send home instructions to go onto a great math games website called, Splash Math. Please look for this and go onto this website this week for math review.

What We’re Learning This Week:

Math-Last week we started to add and subtract by 10. This week we will add using multiples of 10, i,e, 32+20=52. As always, please continue to work on addition and subtraction math facts to 20 using flashcards. Flashcards can be easily made or purchased.

Reading– This week we will continue identifying the central message of what we read. We will also identify and write about the details that support this central message, as well as how these messages can be applied to our own lives.

Phonics- This week we will be learning about words with the digraphs th and wh.

Writing-We will be writing about our opinions about a variety of different topics. We are focusing on how when we write our opinion pieces, our goal is to convince our readers. All of our writing pieces need to have a topic sentence, 3 supporting reasons, as well as a closing sentence.

Social Studies-We will continue learning about the expeditions of Lewis and Clark and how Sacagawea was instrumental in their journey.

S.T.E.M.- Last week we started talking about the concept of hibernation. This week we will start discussing the key aspects of an animal’s winter home. Next week we will be building these homes. Students have already started thinking of ideas for the materials they will need to do this and I told them they can start collecting these items at home. Please be on the lookout for a letter to come home requesting these items next week.

Have a wonderful week!
