What We’re Learning This Week:

Math-We will be subtracting numbers to 20, i.e. 14-8=6. This is typically a more difficult unit for students, so please help your child by using math flashcards at home. They can count backwards, use a number line and/or use any manipulatives you may have i.e. buttons, pasta, coins, etc. We will also be solving word problems using these subtraction facts.

Reading– This week we will continue focusing upon the main ideas about what we read and their supporting details. Please make sure that your child is reading 20 minutes each night!

Phonics- Our phonics skill this week will be words with the long a sound such as: cake, drape and lane.

Writing-We will continue our Informational Writing Unit this week! This week we will write informational pieces about magnets as well as more fall themed activities, i.e. carving a pumpkin.

Science-We will kick off our fun unit on magnets and students will be able to experiment by testing magnets with different objects. We will be focusing on the vocabulary words: attract and repel.

S.T.E.M.-We will be wrapping up our own unique inventions! Ask your child about theirs!
