Reading– We  finished learning about all of the different decoding and fluency strategies: Chunky Monkey, Eagle Eye, Skippy Frog, Flippy Dolphin, Lips the Fish and Stretchy Snake. When your child is reading at home, ask him/her to use these strategies and explain them to you! We will start learning reading comprehension strategies this week, and will start with retelling our stories using a beginning, middle and an end.

Phonics-We will be learning words with the r-blend. I will send these words home on Orange paper on Monday for you to review at home with your child. Your child can work on reading and spelling these words throughout the week. We will play a fun spelling game on Friday.

Writing-We will continue writing narratives on “small moments” across the pages this week following this process: Think of an idea, Plan, Touch and Tell, Sketch, then Write.

Social Studies-We wrapped up our unit on Landforms will start learning about continents and oceans this week. Please look for our Continent Song coming home next week on purple paper. Students will get a ticket for memorizing :)!

S.T.E.M.- Students were able to improve upon their S.T.E.M. challenge from last week-a critical part of the engineering process. They were great collaborators and creative thinkers! We will start our new S.T.E.M. Challenge-building our own island with different landforms.*** Please send in any empty apple sauce, pudding, and fruit cup containers this week!!
